Behaviorists
- Behaviourist is a learning theory based on the idea that behaviour can be controlled or modified based on the antecedents and consequences of a behavior.
- Behaviourist is often used for shaping classroom behaviour and helping students learn basic facts and skills. For example:” students who arrive late will receive detention”.
- Situation example :
- Behaviours (before) – teacher want student to come class on time and participate in class room
- Reinforcements / consequences – teacher will award classroom money to students who demonstrate behaviours and second teacher wil take away money from students who fail to demonstrate the behaviour
- Behaviours (after) – students are coming to class on time and participating in classroom
Cognitivist
Cognitivism can be defined as the study in psyhchology that focuses on mental processes, including how people think perceive and learn, to solve problems and direct their attentionto one stimulus rather than another.
The Cognitive Learning Theory explains why the brain is the most incredible network of information processing and interpretation in the body as we learn things. This theory can be divided into two specific theories; the Social Cognitive Theory ( SCT) and the Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT).
Constructivism
How the learner interprets the new information and applies to their own reality ( meaning constantly evolves)
Leaners is proactive
Type of learning, high-level problem solving and critical analysis, emphasis on real-world scenarios
Examples: clinics, collaborative learning; encourage application of new knowledge in a variety of knowledge in a variety of contexts perspectives
